On April 15, 2025, Consul General Ou Boqian of China in Dubai attended a business event of Chinese enterprises in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, where she elaborated on China’s solemn position regarding the U.S. abuse of tariffs. She stated that free trade is a natural pattern formed by countries leveraging their comparative advantages and that openness and cooperation are the trends of history. Today’s world economy is deeply interconnected. However, despite widespread international opposition, the United States recently blatantly announced so-called “reciprocal tariffs” on trade partners from more than 100 countries and regions worldwide. The adverse consequences triggered by this continue to escalate, harming not only the U.S. itself but also the global community. The U.S. economic operations have been disrupted, with U.S. stock markets falling, the U.S. dollar depreciating, and prices soaring. Global industrial chains have been damaged, financial markets have become volatile, and the risk of economic recession has intensified. As a major power, the United States bears responsibilities to the world. As a great nation, the U.S. should shoulder its responsibilities.

Consul General Ou Boqian stated that China is a responsible major country. Faced with such blatant bullying that places its own interests above the common interests of all countries, China will neither be intimidated nor back down. By standing up to oppose such hegemonic behavior, China is not only safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests but also protecting the shared interests of the international community and preventing humanity from reverting to a jungle world ruled by the strong preying on the weak. She expressed confidence that this stance will receive broad support from the international community. China will firmly uphold the system of free trade, practice multilateralism, and continuously expand the “cake” of common interests.

Consul General Ou Boqian emphasized that China and the UAE are both supporters, beneficiaries, and guardians of free trade and economic globalization, sharing an inclusive and open development philosophy. In the face of a complex and ever-changing international landscape, she expressed confidence that China and the UAE will remain committed to upholding the free trade system and promoting inclusive and mutually beneficial economic globalization, thereby benefiting both countries and their peoples and writing a new chapter of win-win cooperation.
