Consul General Li Xuhang Visits UAE's First Cured Patient with 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

    On February 9, the first case of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the UAE, Ms. Liu, a Chinese citizen, was cured and discharged. Consul General Li Xuhang went to the hospital to express encouragement. Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, assistant undersecretary for Health Centers and Clinics and Public Health, and Wu Yi, Commercial Counsellor of the Consulate General joined the visit.

    Li Xuhang congratulated Liu on rehabilitation and learned in detail about her life and medical treatment situation, with further inquires regarding any difficulties and issues that need to be resolved. Li Xuhang said that the Chinese Consulate General in Dubai attaches great importance to the prevention and control of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, and works closely with the health department of the UAE side to closely monitor the health of Chinese citizens in the consular district, as well as follows the situations of confirmed cases and their families in quarantine in the hospital. All the above measures are aimed at protecting the health and safety of Chinese citizens in the consular district. Recently, the UAE government and its people have given their understanding and support to China's anti-epidemic work. We are also confident in the measures and capabilities of the UAE government and health authorities to respond to the outbreak. Please be reassured that the epidemic of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pneumonia is preventable, controllable and curable. The Consulate General will continue to serve the compatriots in the consular district with the principle of "diplomacy for the people" and continue to be a strong backing for compatriots.

    Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman AL RAND said that Ms. Liu had fully recovered from 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and could return to normal life as she was in good health. He hoped that the general public would accept her and help her. The UAE had taken all necessary measures to respond to newly diagnosed cases of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and all patients will be treated in accordance with World Health Organization standards and requirements.

    Ms. Liu thanked the Consulate General for its attention and care, and said that the visit of Consul General Li and his companions brought warm greetings and meticulous care from the motherland, making her feel warm. Liu also thanked the UAE government for the care and charge-free treatment, and praised the UAE's advanced medical system.

    Subsequently, Li Xuhang was interviewed by China Central Television, Xinhua News Agency and Emirates News Agency.

   

    Ms. Liu entered the UAE on January 16 and symptoms showed on January 23. She was subsequently treated in isolation at a local hospital. While Ms. Liu was admitted to the hospital for diagnosis, all Chinese citizens who had had direct or indirect contact with her had been quarantined at the request of the Chinese embassy and consulate in UAE, and no new cases of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been found so far.
