The Emirate of Fujairah is the only emirate situated along the Gulf of Oman, away from Hurmaouz Strait. Its coasts extend along the Gulf of Oman over a distance 90 km long.The Hajar mountain keeps Fujairah separated from the rest of the country. The emirate covers 1165 Sq km, which is equivalent to 1.5% of the country's total area. The emirate's population is 235,000 in 2004. The Ruler of Fujairah, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, succeeded his father in 1974.

The physical features of the emirate are characterized by a chain of rough mountains and the eastern fertile coastal plain. The Fujairah city is the capital of the emirate, comprises the Ruler's office, governmental departments, establishments and commercial companies. Some important features include the Fujairah Port and the Fujairah International Airport. Dibba Al Fujairah, which comprises the most important agricultural and livestock projects, is also well known for fishing.
